I love throwing a weightless senko texas rigged on a baitcaster. It's always on my deck. Last April I lost a tournament when a solid 8+ pounder came off. I was throwing it on a Falcon Cara Finesse Jig but have now upsized to the Cara head turner for a more solid hookset. I was using a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG Nano but am thinking about upgrading to the Superline 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG Nano. I am wondering what you alls thoughts are? Does anyone have any other ideas?

Sounds like you had the right setup. Sometimes it just happens. I wouldn’t change a thing …except your luck.

I used a straight shank 3 or 4 /0 super line Gama when Senkos first hit the market, they quit making that hook and I went to Gama G-finesse hybrid and have good hook ups

Senkos and flukes can ball up on a weightless Texas rig resulting in low penetrating and side mouth hook sets.
Initially, I went all superline and stouter rod also with maybe a bit more success.
What worked best for me was to go screw/twist lock Owner for weightless flukes and senkos. Instead of balling up, the fluke/senko swings out of the way. Yes, baits get worn out faster….but I noticed better hook penetration immediately.

I use 3/0 gammy EWGs for senko. The senko clears like butter as they are soft and the hooks are so thin. I use a MH rod and have lost fish from not enough backbone for a good hook set, when using a medium rod, but big bass have big jaw bones. I figure sometimes, the hooks just go straight into the bone. As CCTX stated, fluke will ball up even on a EWG and cause problems. I have a different strategy on the fluke that works well for me and I use a 2/0 gammy EWG

As someone already mentioned, sometimes this happens. I always have a senko ready to go and I throw them with no weight. Two weeks ago, I lost a nice bass near the boat when it spit the bait. To make it worse, it was a slow day.

I wouldn't change a thing, honestly. I've had really good success with the setup similar to yours.

I started using these hooks last year and have noticed a real difference they have made.

I use something a little different and it has worked for me. On a weightless Senko, I use a Gamma offset round bend hook. I've never used the EWG on the Senko and I know that's what most fisherman use, but I've caught a lot of fish with the offset round bend hook and have been using it for the last 10 years and I don't feel I lose fish because of it and I don't consider myself having the greatest hook set either. What I don't know is if it affects the way it falls compared to an EWG, but I've caught a lot of fish with it and have confidence in it. I use this same hook for all my worms, lizards as well. I remember reading an article in Bassmaster mag. by Larry Nixon, "The General" and that's what he uses for all his worms.
Does anybody else use the offset round bend hook for Senko's?

I also normally use round bend offset Gamma, 54412- 2/0 and 54413- 3/0, but sometimes will switch out to the EWG on Senkos, Dingers, Stick-O's etc. Seems like it just depends how they are biting that day if you get good hook ups or not. Like you said, go with what gives you confidence.
Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

I've switched over to the Berkley Fusion 19 Offset Worm hook. My preferred stickbait is the KVD Ocho. I throw the 5" Ocho with the 4/0 Offset Worm hook. I can tell a big difference in hookup ratio with this hook over the 4/0 Gama EWG hook. I have absolutely no need or desire to switch hooks at this point.
