I recently bought a bass pro king kat rod and I have it paired with a kastking 80r rover round baitcaster spooled with 100 lb test hurcules braid what do yall think of this setup and I found a chip on where the first part of the rod attaches to the 2nd peice will this make my rod super easy to break? ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/02/full-82108-259729-1000002880.jpg)

Looks like it's already reflecting a weak spot. The set up sounds fine but rods like these tend to be weak if your chunking out anything with some weight as that chip is located in a weight bearing area. From the banks for cats I tend to use big baits and a 3 oz weight. I tend to have better luck on Ugly Stix when trying to keep to a low budget rod. If you can save a bit more money, def pursue getting a Mad Katz rod.

I would take it back and see if they'll replace it or exchange it for another rod. If not I would take a wood block and some sand paper and square it up and then apply some epoxy around the edge. also lighten up on the amount of weight you are chunking.
Just one more cast!
