They are nothing but trouble here at Lake Graham/Eddleman they will tear up a store bought fish basket in a heartbeat. Our GW said we could shoot them as a nusience if they tore up stuff.

When I was napping because I had food poisoning on my boat a momma and her babies came by and hung out for a minute to make me feel a little better.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

They’re really fun to watch. Really cute, too. Unless you have a private pond/lake. In that case, kill ‘em ALL and kill ‘em often. Traps made of 14” pipe with a Conibear 330 inside either end, fish basket in center with live fish works pretty well at trapping them. Nothing works better than a rifle, though. If you have dying tilapia in winter or stock rainbow trout for your bass, you’re going to have Otters in cold months.

Hard to get rid of but you can harass them enough to make them move on.

Not a big deal... Heck, Blue Herons can eat half their weight in fish a day... Dan

They were seen on Sandlin this week. My neighbor is having some work done on his boat house and the carpenter saw a couple in one of the boat wells. I disagree with those that believe they don't hurt a lake, have watched as they would catch a crappie, jump on the boat house floor ,take a couple bites go back in the lake and have another back on the bh floor in a matter of seconds.

We had two killed here in Sunnyvale trying to cross the road. I guess they had taken up residence in the subdivision retention pond. When I first saw them I thought they were dead beavers. Then not having flat tails like a beaver peaked my curiosity so I stop the truck to get a better look. This area has a lot of buzzards and now it makes sense why they never touched the carcass. A road kill possum only last a couple of days. I hated to see the mates life ended by car/truck.

Don't like them. Otters can eat up to 20-25% of their body weight each day, which translates to about 3-5 pounds of fish for a typical adult river otter (quoting from a website).

I have heard there is supposed to be an article on them in an upcoming Texas Monthly article, but not sure of the angle being taken.

Hey! We should lobby TPWD to get some baby otters and raise them eating only cormorants! Then they could release them into the wilds to solve two problems. IslandJim
