According to Toyota, the cost of having a new 0.9 kWh nickel-metal hydride battery packed installed in the RAV4 Hybrid is anywhere between $3,000 and $8,000. There's the option of a refurbished pack, which lowers the price to between $1,500 and $,3,500, but expect these to be slightly less reliable and have a possible shorter lifespan.

Thankfully, all RAV4 Hybrid models come with the brand's class-leading 10-year or 150,000-mile battery warranty as standard. This covers all manufacturer-related faults and defects.

I wonder how much the battery on an older Rav 4 that hadn't been replaced would depreciate the value when you went to trade it in or private sale. Plus, they cost more when purchased new than a gasser.

I have a non-hybrid rav4. It gets such good mpg, the payback on a hybrid is basically never.

Some hybrids do get significantly better mpg and the payback makes sense. Camry and prius fall into that category if my memory of the math serves me correctly.

My neighbor totaled his Prius but didn`t go back with a hybrid. He said the battery was almost gone anyway. He went with a Rave 4 with a gasoline engine. The Hybrids don`t come with a spare tire either. mad

yeah that's best case scenario - get the car totaled before you have to pay for the battery - all the savings and none of the cost of a hybrid

My wife’s Lexus uses the same battery pack. $3000 new. We replaced one on a customers car here at work. $1200 for a remanufactured battery. It was the same battery as the other Toyotas. This was a Prius.

Those batteries are good for 10-12 years or at least 150,000 miles.

My wife’s hybrid Lexus has a spare. It’s tiny, but it’s a spare.

That battery costs ya about $10’a month….if you own it long enough to get to that point.

People I've know with hybrids started having weird electrical issues when the hybrid battery started showing some age to them. Makes sense to be because non hybrid vehicles these days do that when the regular battery starts getting weak.

Our RAV4 is not hybrid and I am happy with the mpg as it would not pony up for a hybrid.

Most of the regular electronics run on a separate 12v battery, even in a hybrid. And the separate battery lasts a lot longer for whatever reason - usually 8-10 years.

I had a 2014 camry hybrid until last year and it was great. Sold it with almost 200k miles on it, on the original hybrid battery and 12v battery still getting 35-40 mpg all day long. Front end suspension needed a complete rebuild and I didn't want to mess with it.

I have a 2013 Prius V with 385,000 miles. Replaced the 12V battery 2 weeks ago for the 2nd time $220 for that. Replaced the Hybrid battery a year ago for $1,500 and they came to the house to do it. That battery failed 6 months later and they came out and put a new one in the next day under warranty. I average 36.9 mpg.
Also have a 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid with 80,000 miles. That one averages 38.6 mpg. With the amount of driving we do, the Hybrid works for us.
I will say below 60 mph we get about 4 mpg better mileage.
