This will primarily affect Federal medical research funding/grantsā¦medical research through the VA/NIH, etc. The VA already has challenges attracting quality nurses and physiciansā¦this will make things worse for the VA system. Iām going out on a limb and say the VA isnāt the target.. Why would scientific research be a target; itās such a small 2% of government spending. If the goal is to trim government fat; start where the most government money is spent (Medicare, Social Security, and Defense)ā¦.thats where the most inefficiencies will be; the government is wasteful to just about the same degree in all its departments. Specifically targeting research seems like typical inefficient politicsā¦part of the problemā¦it makes nice headlines and makes emotionally politicized people happy; but it lacks real substance and is short sightedā¦.typical swamp thinking. Everything has to be cut.

So all this research is so secretive that the payments categorization code is left blank? Cancel it all, every single bit of it.

Everything has to be cut. You can't cut any govt. spending without someone crying out about some perceived negative impact. Govt. spending has a life of its own and is almost impossible to kill off. Once started it never ends. We have to rip the band aid off, yes there will be pain, but in the end, it will work out for the best.

How does one eat an elephant? One bite at a time. The USAID was the first, because it was the most obvious fraud and graft.

you will be able to kiss any gender studies goodbye
Maybe your trying to be funny She works on soil and water conservation Yeah. I'm speculating only the obviously frivolous research will be cut, like mentioned above. Weird science can be cut Yeah for real What I have seen at 2 universities was serious research, backed up by data, & performed by people who really care Never imagined I would be exposed to this world

36 trillion in debt, now spending over one trillion on interest payments per year on the national debt (more than we spend on defense). We need to take larger bites.

Who gets to decide what research is warranted and what is frivolous?? Some government agency..?? If so which one, who staffs it, what are their credentials/backgrounds?? No doubt there are some very questionable research projects being funded. But lets assume there is a research project to develop a better birth control technology ( yeah I can hear the smarta** comments on this already:) and the department in charge of funding research is headed by someone who does not believe in any kind of birth control. How's that going to play out?? 90% of us would support this funding but it is stopped by one person due to their beliefs. What controls are going to placed on the department overseeing funding to insure it is done fairly and in society's best interests. Pick a disease...cancer, alzhiemer's parkinson's, etc. who decides to fund or not fund these areas of needed research??
Sure this is hypothetical but declaring all funding to be wasteful and stopping everything is counter productive for society and not in our best long term interests.

How about pharma funding their own research for stuff like that. Rather than spend their money on political donations. And if the government is gonna fund research for pharma is should be under a contractual situation that any research that leads to medications hitting the market the revenue/profits are returned to the government until the grant/loan is paid back. Thats how they handled the banking crisis.

Stop it all and then decide what projects are truly beneficial. If you study everything then someone will defend the spending, or some politician will defend it as it is pork for their district. This is why we are 34 trillion in debt. If we have a national debt crisis that will be one way to end the many wasteful spending programs.
