We stocked crappie in our 15 Acre lake at the ranch and they have gotten to be some, what I think, are pretty good size. We have caught several in the 3lb range. Would that be considered Trophy size?

I would venture most the folks on here have never caught a 3 pounder. That said, there's private lakes in South Carolina that grow 5 pounders! Seen the replicas but never fished for them. I would probably fall out dead if I landed a 5 pound slab! Me and little man are both working on catching a 4 pounder! The fish are as good as the lake they live in. Some places a pound and a half is a giant! Other places 3 pounders don't turn many heads!

3lbs. Hybrid crappie in a pond can regularly grow to 3 lbs, but I’m not sure it counts. I’ve seen two fish (that got off at the bank), that would’ve been over 4 in all my years of fishing, I’ve landed 1 or 2 3 lbers, and I’ve lost maybe another 2. 2+ is hard enough, 3 is usually only possible in December-mid April when the fish are stuffed with eggs and Shad. 4lbs…..well that’s a different animal, when they get that big they’re hard to catch mainly because their mouth is so big you can’t bank on getting a good hookset.

I would think 3 lbs is a trophy in anyone's book. My biggest is 2.78, close but no cigar.

Mo next time I fish for them and we catch a big one I will post pics. We don’t fish for them often.

I would consider anything over 2 pounds to be a trophy personally but that is just me. Very few folks will ever catch a 3 pounder from public waters.

I've mounted 100s of crappie. Lots of 2#+, more than a 100 3#+ and less than a dozen 4#+ fish. With that being said, a trophy is one's own preference. Personally, a 3lbs.+ spawning male white crappie is just beautiful. Of course, so is a 3#+ spawning male black crappie!

Anything over 15 inches I would say is something to be proud of. Not sure I would mount it. I would say 17inches to mount

Bill that is a beautiful mount. I would like to get one similar with 2-3 crappie on a piece of drift. Just to catch 3 mount worthy fish first. I will give you a call when I do
