Had a gap in my schedule and was already in Frankston.. went to the Palestine spillway to see what was going on there.. missed about 10 bites on 5 inchswimbait before downsizing to a spinner bait, the smallest thing I had to throw and started jerking them out..

Didn’t know what was hitting me earlier as I’ve only fished spilling a couple of times over the years and couldn’t remember if I’d caught hybrids or bass..









Got cold and made a move to the ramp at damn.. tied my 5 inch ignite baits, wimbait back on and got one more, much better than the others.

Nice report and fish. It is fun to change lures to figure out what works.

Nice spotted bass! Maybe I’m losing it, but that 3rd one kinda looks like it might be a cross between a spot and a largemouth.

I watched that last bass come up from under bait in clear water.. it hit just as I was about to lift bait and cast again... rod loaded up and I swung it onto the bank without ever reeling.. it was as surprised as I was.

Went back for a couple of hours today.. they were biting better than yesterday… brought some smaller baits and whacked em.. got tired of catching and started throwing 5 inch swimbait. and kept catching them.. caught ten and left.. no one netting any shad either day… heard they were catching white bass at neches upper end of lake

All three species will cross, the spot/smallmouth hybrids are just more common. That one looks like a cross to me for sure.

Couldn’t resist. Went back today.. Caught one and left quick.. it was cold and windy.
