Saving more when I was younger instead of buying [censored] and trying to keep up with others. I drill it into my kids to save now for their retirement. I am still ok and will still retire earlier than most.

My Mom not getting to see my son before she passed. She was living in Post. We were living in Colorado. Jack was born in September. We had a trip planned to see her on Presidents’ Day.
At 56, she had a massive heart attack and died on February 10th (this Monday) a week before we were getting there. Instead of going for a happy family gathering, we went for her funeral and burial. One of the hardest things I’ve ever done was to walk into that funeral home and see her laying in that casket.
That was 34 years. She’s with Jesus. I know I’ll see her again. My FIL died (at 56) before the wife and I were married. My MIL died (at 62) when our kids were 5 & 3. They missed out on that grandparent relationship.
