Everything is good about them but the price and reliability. That too will change eventually.
Solid state batteries are so long lasting that they are one and done for you bass boat. They are supposed to last over 153k cycles or 20 years.
They don't get hot enough to start a fire.

I was surprised to see these being offered. I had read that solid state batteries are 3 to 4 times more expensive than other lithium batteries.

The gains seem negligible over LiFePO4, especially considering the cost. We don't really need lighter batteries in the marine industry. Solid state is very unproven still from a mass production standpoint, the market adoption and the daily use cases are almost nonexistent.

Their site says 3000 cycles at 100% DOD, not sure where the 15,000 cycles came from?

Sorry, I have been reading about different tech and confused solid state with LTO.
Even 3000 cycles is a multiple of what LifePo4 has and should last the life of a boat. It may even get to be a thing to transfer batteries from one boat to the other.

I was doing some research on future and upcoming battery tech a few months ago just because and found there are a few things being worked on like this. I just don't see how it pays for itself

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

The vast majority of the work is due to its weigh, size and longevity for use in vehicles where those are important.
Whats coming will come from that research.
It will be a battery that is lighter, smaller and will last 3 times as long.

Yeah but do they really last that long?, those LED bulbs they said you wouldn't have to change forever sure didn't come true.

LiFePO4 will do 3000 cycles at 100% DOD and still have ~80% of the original capacity.

Its not the led that is to blame for short life. Its the manufacturer and the quality of build.
The power supply is usually what goes out or the led connections.
I have repaired half a dozen older bulbs by finding the bad connection and putting a jumper in.

In the last few years I have had almost no failures so either they have worked that out or the bulbs I buy now are just better.

You actually went through the trouble to repair an LED bulb? Hahaha.

Yes, its fun to tinker with stuff like that.

I also built my own lithium battery with the LTO cells. They are not as dense as the LifePo4 but have good characteristics too.
I don't fish like I used to so these surplus EV cells will probably last me the rest of my life.

I build them at work too.

You guys have some skill. Building batteries, repairing LED lights, etc.

With the cost and weight of a current lithium batteries i don't see new tech like this catching on, in the fishing industry. What would make us spend more? I mean LI exceeds are current demands for energy in our boats. For fishing i see a stalemate in battery tech coming, course EVs cars and boats may benefit from these.
