That is how much agricultural land we are losing to development as of 2024 in Texas. Think about that for a minute and what it means to our agricultural history, our ability to support the huge population increase, the effect on our energy infrastructure, food, etc. It is all bad news for everyone except the 1% who are raking in billions at the expense of long term Texas citizens

Quite a few hay fields in the local area are now being converted to housing and retail. People gotta live somewhere.

It’s a shame, and no end in sight.

The Texas Triangle is going to be one massive city from Houston, to DFW, to Austin, and San Antonio someday. Lets' call Texicalli.

Our nice quite country life has changed considerably over the last 15 years. Most of it is to support the DFW sprawl, sand&gravel mining, power plants, etc..

I don't think the infrastructure is keeping up with the growth . It's a mess in every major city in Texas. hmmm

Housing additions are popping up in several places in East Texas. It is taking away a lot of the reasons to move out here.

Smith County is ground zero for East Texas development. The roads are clogged with construction equipment and dump trucks. They are bulldozing trees faster than I mow my turf

I'm not sure that a "hay" field with 4 longhorns in it for tax purposes really qualifies as agriculture. Just throwing that out there.....

I would also suggest that these transactions are between 2 private parties, the current owner and the developer and should remain the business of those two parties. The locally famous Dean ranch here sold for 120 million to DR Horton. I don't have to like it, but I didn't have 120 million in my back pocket to buy it so who am I to tell the grandkids of the ranch founder that they can't have 120 million dollars.
