Would much rather have no tax on SS than no tax on tips. I can come up with a reason for no tax on SS, but cannot come up with one for tips.

you can thank Biden and Gore for SS being taxed . Biden was the vote in the Senate to pass taxing SS 50% , then about 7 years later , Gore was the tie breaking vote to raise it to 85% .

Democrats are responsible for taxing Social Security. They apparently got sick and tired of those retired, fixed income fat cats not paying their "fair share".

Now that Trump made it an issue and won the election they suddenly come up with all kinds of plans of their own. Where was this concern during the last 30-40 years?

SS is deducted pre-tax, so no income tax has been paid on it. But then you know that.
If you're on a fizxed budget then no tax on SS benefits would be nice. I think the question is how much revenue is generated from tax on SS benefits.
If they do away with taxing SS, they are going o have to make up that revenue somewhere else.

SS is not deducted pre-tax; you do pay income tax on the SS deducted from your pay. If you are self-employed, you only pay income tax on 1/2 of self-employment tax.

Your employer does not pay income tax on the employer portion of SS and Medicare tax.

Yes, Democrats are responsible for taxing Social Security, but Republicans have had many opportunities to repeal the tax.

Who doesn't understand that the topic is paying income tax on Social Security benefits?

Joe Biden was the deciding vote for the first tax on benefits. Al Gore got us to 85%.

How did the country ever function before seniors were taxed on the allowance they are given after government confiscated and used their money for a few decades?

Given that it is unlikely that I will ever collect the money I paid into this federal ponzi scheme, it seems to me that I am being taxed on the money I paid in. Seems unfair to me…but I feel the same way about paying property tax.

Government sends billions of taxpayer dollars to dead people and places like Ukraine, then we get lectured about how irresponsible it would be to cut taxes. Washington apparently needs every penny and then some. Do you people realize how expensive waste, fraud, and vote buying are?

Sen Kennedy said that SS list some 6500 as being older that 112. Truth is, some 40 are.

That is correct. Imagine all of those dead people still cashing them SS checks.

When social security was dreamed up you were supposed to die at 67 and every broke dirtbag with back pain wasn’t supposed to be on disability. Times have changed.
