Post tournament break down. Sorry for the long post but plan to do break downs good and bad over the course of the season if that's ok.

There was 24 of us braving the wind this past sat

I launched at Runaway Bay with just a hand full of other anglers which I was really surprised by. I thought there would be a lot more of us there. I started out fishing the slips in the small area but quickly went to the main lake and fished the rip rap heading towards Rattlesnake Island and caught a 16.50” by 745am. It choked the 6th Sense lipless crank and I thought it was going to be on fire after that. NOPE!!!

I fished all the way to the island without a bite and got a bright idea to ride the waves/wind to a cove down by the dam. I found a nice pocket with shallower warmer water but didn’t get a bite. While I was in there the wind changed direction and I didn’t realize it!

When I came out of that cove the wind was absolutely blowing out of the north and I started taking big waves over the side and front. I was able to get to another pocket and get out on someone’s dock and gather my self and get water out of my hull. After that I rode the biggest waves I have ever been in back to the marina area. It took 1 hour to get back which is absolutely insane for the short distance I had to go. When i got back it was 2pm! I had to sit there for a min and gather myself as I was a wreck.

Once back in the marina area I had some back camera issues and just had my chesty running unfortunately. I planned to throw glides around the slips hoping for 1 big bite but I picked up the lipless and caught a 12.50” on my 2nd cast at 2:06pm along the gravel bank.

At 2:14pm I caught a 13.25” and after letting that go I talked to who was leading the event before the leaderboard was cut off and knew we were real close or he was up on me by a little bit. I was afraid the anglers in the river might have some and knew the service up there was bad.

I kept fishing to the back of the marina pocket and felt my line to check if it was frayed which it wasn't but it seen better days. I told myself to sit down and retie because if I had one break off for being lazy I would be sick. So I retied and at 2:40pm I landed a 17.50” to end the day putting over the top for 1st place.

I would put this tourney up there with the tough Nocona tournament we had back in the spring of I think ‘23.
