Sons and I are going to Fork Saturday thru Monday stayin at Popes landing. Anybody have any tips? Especially for that general area around Popes? We are wanting to rent a boat for Sunday so if anybody knows a good place to rent a decent boat please let me know that too. Also what are current water temps? Hopin we can get on a late winter big girl. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Didn't see this post before posting on the other. You would prob be better off getting a guide, about the same price range.

Looked at guides…I can hire a guide for $400 for 5 hours plus a tip or rent an aluminum bassboat for $200 for a whole day. Does anybody have any juice on the area near pope marina?if it means anything to anybody I’m a 3 time Iraq war vet and my oldest son (24) just came back from S. Korea with the army and it’s been his dream to fish fork. My youngest son is 17 and aint into fishing like me and his older brother are but I want him to have fun, so at least he has a nice cabin to come back to. Any tips for that area would be great please.

Hey Bassin, I might be out there this weekend, I can share some spots for you. The lake has been fishing really tough the last few weeks but we are having some rain and a warming trend that might help a bit... Send me a message on insta; cruzfishing

Also recommend getting a guide. Not that you can't catch 'em, but this is scoping season. Also the lake has extremely specific boat lanes that you won't get on the rental boat.

Have fun with your son out there this weekend. Get some minnows and do some crappie fishing if the bass don't bite as well as you want them to.

Going to be hard to get much info right now. You have a big tournament out there in about 2 weeks that alot of us are getting ready for.

Perhaps a guide will come along and be willing to take a vet and his active duty son on a trip at a discounted rate. While success isn't guaranteed with a guide, a guide will certainly get you headed in the right direction and is well worth the extra money, especially if you only have a day.

Renting a tin boat for a day on a lake like fork seems like a recipe for a less than ideal time.

rent a tin boat and run up Birch Creek to the power lines. drop the trolling motor and throw a jig in the main creek channel. if it has livescope on it (doubt a rental will), find the big tree roots on the channel edge and throw at them. you'll catch some slot fish!
