Do not tax me. That’s a heck of an idea.

Tip shaming had gotten crazy. Some restaurants have the selections at 18%, 20% and 22%. It’s also on counter service at the same percents. Tips have a built in hedge against inflation. As checks continue to go up so do the tip amounts.

+1!!

Tax them, tips are paying their salary so the employer can make more money. Unless it’s changed waiters are paid little to nothing.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right

Young people don't want to work in food service anymore. Tipped employees at most decent places make 30 to 50 an hour and you can't get those positions filled. It's been a trend for a while. I don't know if it's a social media thing, they just aren't interested in it. It's affecting the management pool also as we always recruited the good ones who seemed to have no interest in college, dropped out etc. With the direction things are going I expect the entire industry to be fundamentally changed in 10 years. Problems in the industry are through the roof at this point and operators are just doing their best to conceal it.

That's what I'm talking about! thumb

My earned interest & dividends could be defined as tips for being a good customer.

Tips happen all over the place that go unreported now. Unless you guys are just cheap, which is entirely possible you should be tipping lots more folks than you do. Landscape guys get tipped all the time in cash, when the kid at the feed store loads the back of the truck for you tip him, I tipped the kind of half witted guy that fixed a tire for me a few weeks ago when I was hunting, the driver of courtesy van at hotels, the people that help you with luggage at airports and hotels I got tips taking out groceries as a kid and refuse to let them take out my groceries at brookshires because they don't allow tipping. When someone does something extra for you throw them a couple bucks, a 5 spot, etc. This kind of tip goes unreported. It's really no different at a restaurant other than it's a mass collection point for tips.

If the tax-free tips ever happens, it will be limited to a certain amount, or you will need to meet certain criteria that will not be beneficial to take advantage of to make a huge difference for most people.

Guess I'm cheap. I tip servers, uber drivers, and hairdressers. That's about it.

If a man needs help with his luggage he packed too much.

Tipping culture has gotten ridiculous. I don't feel compelled to pay people extra for doing their job.
