Perhaps it's my age but my back side hurts from sitting when I get out of the kayak. Do you all use a cushion for your lower back? When I saltwater fish, I will get out and wade but his is not an option for freshwater fishing. I am fishing out of a Jackson Cuda.

I fish out of a Jackson Kraken 15.5. The seat is pretty comfortable. Mine came with an inflatable lumbar support. I believe it’s available on the Jackson website. My buddy has a Jackson, too. I forget what model. It’s a 12-footer. His seat has a low and a high position. He keeps the seat in the high position and also put a cushion to allow him to sit up higher.

On one of our outings, his higher-than-normal position caused him to turtle-side. The huge tackle box he had in the back of his kayak may have had something to do with it, too… He wound up putting outriggers on his kayak, but he’s still not totally comfortable in it.

My point is that you can improve your comfort, but be aware of your center of gravity.

I’m in the process of putting a Newport 180 Pro on mine. I’m trying to figure out whether to use the Kraken Krate or to put the battery below deck.

Good luck with figuring out what works for you!

I was given an inflatable seat cushion as a gift by an old paddler 20 years ago … still have it, still use it, wouldn’t leave the ramp without it…use one for butt and one for my back.

Teton sports seat cushion? Therma celll, all make the size I had …

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Icon is spot on. A tip to remember is deflate the seat cushion just enough so your butt bones touch the seat. This allows comfort yet retains stability.

It’s common to use a seat cushion of some type. You pretty much have to find one that fits your posture and your seat. One that’s too thin doesn’t do any good. One that’s too thick will raise you up in the seat and make your back rest differently against the seat back which could cause issues too.

You get out of it what you put into it!
