I can see just fine further out
Cheapo $15 reading glasses changed everything.
Only problem is now if I take them off I can’t even make out a single word up close.
Guess I have another addiction now.

Get ready to buy several pairs and put them everywhere. Then get ready to never be able to find a pair when you need them.

I have them everywhere. Pair in the boat, house has 3 pair, garage, work shop, buddy's truck, wifes car, my truck has 2 pair. And then there are spares, I do break a pair once in a while. But always have spares.

I have to laugh reading this thread, living in a community of older folks, you have these vision conversations, along with hearing aid conversations, you are now entering the oldster zone.

Same here but late 50's. Hadn't had an eye exam in over 30 years so had one done (ophthalmologist) my distant vision is better than perfect but he said I have presbiopathy. Said go to the drug store and get a pair of 1.5x readers. I went to a book store that has a readers rack, picked out a random book that looked blurry, and just started at the bottom of the readers rack. 1.5x did the trick. I bought 5 pairs on the spot. A couple are definitely on the feminine side but I'm beyond caring. Oh, and they're all blue light blockers. At the time I was in front of a screen 15 hours a day.

LASIK won’t fix needing reader. I had it two years ago and wish I would have done it 20 years ago. Doctor told me though that at my age, 45 now readers will be in my future very soon.

My eyes went haywire when i was 46. Was in denial while doing a word search book and the letters were blurry. I asked my gf at the time to let me see her readers. It was night and day difference. Fast forward to 50 and i have at least 15 pairs all over. One thing i found out, get the little rope thing that slides on your glasses and goes around your neck so there always with you. Dollar tree sells readers for a buck fifty if you have on nearby. They might look a little goofy, but then again i wear bib overalls with tennis shoes because of the Nuerepathy in my feet. Like the meme on facebook says “ i thought getting older would take longer”. Welcome to the club.

Anyone else use their phone to take a pic of the menu at a restaurant, then blow up the pic so you can read it?

Yep! I don't actually take a pic, though. I just zoom in and out as needed.

Yep it happens...had laisk in my 40's and sure enough at about 65 had to get readers. And the comment about the entering the old people zone is spot on...:) Maybe a thread about hearing aids, shoulder and knee replacement ,etc. is next...:)

My ability to read small print, tie knots etc went down hill fast around 48. The key to readers is to throw numbers at the problem. Buy them in bulk and if you put them everywhere, bedroom, den, office, kitchen, boat, truck you will still not be able to find them when you need them......you will never have them at restaurant to read the menu, at least now we have phones to take pic of menu and expand. I'm convinced they fall into a black hole because I have bought a least a dozen in the last 3 months and currently know where 1 is.....

My wife started yelling at me when she caught me doing this. I think reality sat in for her that I was not the perfect person she had married.....

I had to get glasses to pass my eye test when I renewed my DL last year @ 65 years old. I couldn`t pass the test but I don`t need them to read anything, even with small print. My problem is being able to read road signs until I get about 50 yards from them. I couldn`t read an exit sign on an interstate at night until I was almost passed an exit, so I never drove at night unless I knew the area very well. We had to travel to Dallas last year many times last year due to my grandson's heart issues and my new glasses were a game changer. I only wear them at home when I`m watching television. I don`t all the time, but it`s much clearer when I do. If I get up to something in the kitchen like fix supper, I will remove them because I actually see better without them then. confused 3
