Minn Kota has a 12 volt Terrova that would work well with a 16 footer.....

16' square nose river Jon here. I use a 55lb Terrova with BT and SL.

[quote=Texas Grown]16' square nose river Jon here. I use a 55lb Terrova with BT and SL. [/quote Well, Cuz, imagine seeing you here ! I had a Terrova on a Ranger 18’ tin boat, and it did plenty good, but it didn’t have all the bells and whistles so I found a good deal on an Ultrex and swapped them out. If I were to be outfitting a flat bottom now, I would go with the Terrova. Either would work well.

The Terrova is the more economic choice for sure!! That said put me in the Ultrex camp!! I don’t know how people fish with an electric steer motor!! Like watching paint dry!! I can’t sit still that long!!

45lb thrust and 12v is adequate on 16.5ft flat bottom. The rest is preference on ease of use. I'm with Slew on the Ultrex. Electric steer ain't for me. I've used a couple on other people's boats and not impressed. I'm sure if I got used to it, might be a little better. But the instant response of cable steer is what I've always used. The foot pedal is positive contact and I'm not feeling for those foot switches which takes too much pressure to manipulate. But that's just me.

I have a 24volt Powerdrive on a 14ft fiberglass skiff. I would recommend a 12 volt Terrova on a small boat. My powerdrive works fine but I simply hate the way you engage the unit.

You will absolutely love spot lock no matter which unit you choose. Already mentioned I have a powerdrive ( stay away from this one) that I like but hate the way it deploys and stows but was what I could afford when old Maxxum died on my old rig. Put on new boat but saving for Ultrex or something that stows easier. Also consider how its gonna mount and securing it etc.
Watch it happen, make it happen, or say what the hell happened. Capt. Phil Harris F/V Cornelia Marie RIP
