Doesn't the majority of TikTok users access it via phones?

The reason to require them to be sold is because did it for national security reasons. China.

They can't shut it down completely but it will curb its use dramatically when the app and internet access is taken away from them. Its backed by Trumps 2020 EO and Congresses bipartisan bill that was signed by Biden.
Anyone in the US who uses a VPN to access it will be breaking the law. I don't know how or if that will be pursued but China will not have the ability it had before it was banned.

Personally I see a difference in a fishing forum or some of the other forums and a bunch of made up, staged videos created by people who have nothing better to do. To me the difference is obvious, but that’s just me. I have seen zombies watching TikTok videos for hours on end and believing what they just watched is actually real.

Absolutely different.

FB or Twitter will develop a platform quickly that looks similar. It's too successful to simply go away

Can't believe why anyone would scroll for hours a week on a phone or computer , interacting people they have never met. With only a few things in common, seeking social interaction, approval, advice , and entertainment. Knowingly avoiding work, or social situations that are happening within their immediate proximity. Nothing at all like we're doing here...because we're smarter than that. Right????

You tube shorts has been around for nearly as long as tik tok. Something will fill the void
Tik tok just stole the vine platform and made it easier to post longer videos

This is my understanding as well. If you have the app then it will continue to work, but you will no longer to be able to download it or any updates from the US based app stores. The ban will also prohibit any US based company from hosting any tic-toc content.

No tik toking on snap facing going on here.

I don't know enough about how it is a national security risk, other than its Chinese. If its a risk ban it, if it isn't make them set up shop in the US and pay taxes, if they aren't already.

The bill recently passed and signed into law bans "internet hosting services". I assume that blocks them from being used unless of course you have a VPN.

I was able to find an answer to my question. By far the vast majority of people access it via phones.
cheers
