The looming TikTok ban is barely a week away and the company is running out of time to do anything about it. On Friday, the Supreme Court heard last-minute arguments about the ban, with TikTok angling for an intervention or, at least, a temporary ruling to buy a bit more time. They didn’t go especially well for TikTok — even justices who sounded sympathetic to the company’s arguments about free speech seemed satisfied by the government’s core national security argument.

As a practical matter, how do you shut it down.

If it is “banned” in the US; wouldn’t the millions of domestic users of the platform simply VPN change their location within five minutes of the ruling?
It has to be young people who utilize tik tok; and “banning” something only increases the attractiveness of that item.

I remember in the 80’s when Tipper Gore pushed for the NC-17 “banning” of certain heavy metal and rap albums….that sticker only increased the popularity of those records.

Me either. My hat is off to some of the video creators, but end up with contrived, unreal results. Kids get hooked on scrolling these things for hours.
Bottom line, if Chyna promotes it, I'm against it.

I see as many adults addicted to these fake, stupid videos as I see kids. It is a non productive time waster. Any action that would lead to its demise, I would support.

Personally I see a difference in a fishing forum or some of the other forums and a bunch of made up, staged videos created by people who have nothing better to do. To me the difference is obvious, but that’s just me. I have seen zombies watching TikTok videos for hours on end and believing what they just watched is actually real.

banning tic toc does not end its being used, only that the ap cant be downloaded any more.. supposedly anyone that already has it is good to go.. just no new members... so the platform is suppose to die a slow death... yeah right... I still use windows7.

The ban is just for the app, you can watch all the Tic tok vids you want on a browser. The app will be banned from all gov machines

The Tik Tok spends two billion a quarter on advertising in the USA…makes sense as there is a Tik Tok commercial every 45 minutes on all the networks. They also spend 8 million on their US lobby annually; donating to the two major political parties.

They are part of the machine and their money has been welcomed by all the TV media networks and major political parties.

It’s a problem; but it’s what makes capitalism thrive and dominate.
But, yes; it is the key player in creating an illusion of freedom when in reality you have replaced the pursuit of money as all powerful instead of a divine right monarch or oligarchy.
