Red Rat L traps used to be a big thing at Fork in early Spring. Have not heard or seen that much in the last several years? Any of you still catch them that way ?

Oh yeah, they still eat em. First fish I ever caught on Fork happened to be a hot craw lipless...I just think people have turned more to jerk baits, glide baits, and swim baits......particularly with the increased use of FFS.

Nothing like rippin' it out of hydrilla and feeling the vibration stop. Fire tiger was my go to simply because everyone else was throwin' red.

My favorite was a Cordell Super Spot in bright red in Glade.

Used to fish them a lot ripping through the grass. I was fishing with a buddy in Ray branch throwing red rattle traps. My buddy was throwing the 3/4 ounce trap and suddenly he said his trap was stuck in the grass or on a tree he pulled harder and snapped the line a few times to break it free. Next thing we know a huge bass jumped maybe 15 feet from the boat and threw his trap back at him. Hit the boat with a loud "TWANGE" (if that's a word). It was a metal BassTracker. The guy just sat down in the seat for at least 10 minutes. All he said was "fish of a lifetime" and we went back to fishing.

Throwing the 1oz red traps over grass down on Chaney point was what bigbass dreams were made. When that pattern was firing, you were subject to be in the record books and be the cover photo for the next Field & Stream
