I use both and haven’t noticed a difference between the colors.

I always thought the red was used to catch the fisherman. I've used them before. I can't remember the brand but they would get rust specs pretty quick. Especially using a salted bait.
Besides, a big chunk of cut bait covers most of the color of the hook. Made no difference when I used them.
But if they increase your excitement for going fishing. I say use them.

The color red looks black at 20 ft, Might as well use black hooks.

I use the "What's on sale" hooks. Tenn River is tuff on terminal tackle. Cat Con is next month. I need to justify a trip to load up on hooks and weights. And not forget to wear my blinders when I walk past the MadKatz exhibit booth.

I almost always use red hooks. Do they make a difference? Probably not all the time. But, years ago I was fishing the crappie house at Joe Pool lake. It was a pretty cold day in February. There were a dozen or so folks in the dock and I was the only one catching fish. Only difference we could figure out is I was using red hooks. So I gave one to a guy fishing there who wasn't catching any and he started to catch. Probably was just that day but i've used red hooks ever since.

Say what you will, to each their own opinion. I either read or saw something that said that the color red is most translucent of all the colors under water. Because of this I have always had a proclivity to use red hooks when applicable. Not to mention it is the natural color of blood, so to me I would think that might trigger a response in any type of gamefish. These are just my thoughts, but always open to hear others opinions on the matter too.
