Nothing better than a nice plate of stone crab.

Once you have a Cajun teach you to properly take a big blue crab apart you’ll throw dirt on anything else.

I won’t turn down King or Dungeness ….ever. I can eat my weight in either one.
I used to think that, too. Back in my AF days I had a TDY at Nellis AFB, just outside of Las Vegas. This was back when there were still a handful of the casinos that had the seafood buffets and prime rib specials for very reasonable prices. I decided that this day I was going to eat crab. Just crab, and lots and lots of it. So I go to the buffet at the Sahara casino and got two trays piled high with crab legs. I sat at a table and cracked those legs for about an hour, just piling all the meat up on a plate. Ended up with a dinner plate piled with about a 4" mound of crab meat, onto which I dumped about 5 tubs of butter. So I grabbed my fork and went to town. You never realize just how rich crab meat is until you eat it all by itself in large quantities. After just a few minutes my stomach started doing summersaults. I made it through maybe 1/4 of my pile of crab meat before throwing in the towel. But throw in the towel I did, leaving a huge plate of pure crab meat and 45 minutes worth of cracking and cleaning behind.

Nothing better than a nice plate of stone crab. Better than Lobster, that’s a known fact around my parts I’ve had some bad nights fishing for reds and trout turn to excitement after tussling with some stone crab claws for the cooler. Love em

Drink plenty of cold beer to wash it down. I got Dungeness fresh off the boat last time I was in Kodiak Alaska. Took it straight back to the house we were renting and steamed it. Best I’ve ever had.

I (and B for those who know him) got asked to leave red lobsters my freshman year of college when they did a all you can eat crab legs deal. I was so sick anyway from all the butter and more butter and more butter.

When I lived in Washington I used to drop off a couple of crab pots on my way to the salmon fishing spots in Puget Sound. It was hit or miss, but somedays I'd get a limit of 6 Dungeness crabs, they had to be 6.5 inches across the front of the shell to be keepers, so 6 of them was a lot of crab. In the rocky areas of the sound there were Red Rock crabs, never have seen those for sale in restaurants or anywhere else, but I'd get some of those sometimes too. Red Rocks have a different taste than Dungeness, sweeter IMO, both are very tasty.
