Heck, I can remember when you would see these in every truck with rifle safely stowed.

My 76 Ford F100 had a two rifle gun rack. I carried a 410 and a 308 on it all the time. Never once was I questioned or told I couldn’t have them. I was 16 yrs old. Lewisville High School Fighting Farmer.
Never once thought about shooting up a school….just sayin.

My truck had one of these too! I got my sons this for Christmas this year.

Sad. When I was a kid you could leave your car/truck unlocked, windows down and key in the ignition and it was safe. Most farmers had a loaded shotgun or rifle or both on a rear window rack, unlocked and key in ignition. It's gotten so bad when we're at a campground we keep the camper's storage doors locked.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

A lot of country people had those. I never saw one in the city. You would definitely get your car broken into in today's world, it's just not the same way anymore.
just trying to catch a fish

I don't remember many trucks when I was in HS. Nor was guns an issue. I don't know if they were allowed or not.
It was not uncommon to see a gun rack in a truck but most that I remember left them empty. They were probably worried about them being stolen.

Actually it was Hickory Creek. Were the Mafia people lived. We never EVER had crime. People were scared to come into that little community.

I remember in high school when they first made the rule that you couldn't have a gun in a school parking lot. We had to take our shotties off the gun rack and put them under the seat.

They used to make seat covers for an old bench seat and it had an opening in the front that you could slide your gun in. We had brought our guns to school and went dove hunting when school let out!
