I have it and I am damn good at it. Just my 2 cents. I havent watched fishing in a year so and I was that kid that couldnt afford to see Bill Dance and would go over my neighbor to "act" like his friend on Saturdays, just to watch Bill and Jimmy Houston.
Decided to give it another try. Let me say, watching today was so boring. These guys were catching 20 plus pound sacks on Toledo, but there was no creativity. Almost like buying cookie cutter house in a community.. They all were using "magic wands" or spin cast rods and virtually same tactic/bait.; in fact, one guy they started recording had a jig/chunk with baitcaster and he looked out of place dragging the bait which is my favorite technique but when he caught one, ....wow...thats what I love about bass fishing...get the net!!
I think there is a place for it, but damn it was boring. There is nothing like one guy putting it all together in a tourney and putting the hammer down on the other anglers. I was taught Behavior Pattern and Presentation mix with instinct.
Yes there is a skill to it, but I think it should be designated for crappie fishing and smallmouth bass.
I will be tuning in to check this out.
I kept saying this cant be good for the tackle and lure producers/sales. There is only so many different baits you can use here..haha.

I am an old who doesn't have FFS and I don't have any issues with it. FFS has actually helped me catch more fish by learning how to better utilize my current 2D, SI, and DI units. Watching YouTube videos about FFS and 2D sonar has helped me better identify bass near the bottom and use finesse tactics to catch them. It has helped me, and I don't even own the new technology. It has forced me to become better with the electronics I have now. But who knows, this time next year I might have it, lol.

Oh gosh, down to one pro tour with Duckett being the owner, seems like that would be popular and successful

Yeah I don't really see that happening. I'm sure there some kids that can fish old school, but I'd guess most aren't very good with side scanning and instinct style fishing. It'll be fun to watch though. We'll get to see if Drew Gill learned to fish without the umbilical cord in the off season. He is the one I’m most interested in watching without the scope. He literally never makes a cast without looking at a fish on scope, He was on BTL right after they annouced this rule change and rambled non stop in fear/anger for 30 minutes without taking a breath, the demons were in his head bad, I am very interesting how he will do with these rules. He didn't seem angry at all. I think you either don't like him or severely misread him there. He just talks a lot and has a lot of nuanced thoughts

I could care less if it's used or not; however, FFS sure don't make for good T.V. fish'in shows. That's odd because TV ratings have never been higher. They were so high that Fox increased their coverage for 2025. Yep, as long as they are showing the graph view I'm watching. Learned more the last few years watching FFS than the past 30. Same, I love watching the screen

I think we are seeing the first nail in the coffin of professional fishing. Expand on your thoughts Cameron , interested in hearing / reading them.

I don't fish contests, I fish for the enjoyment of fishing and I'm fine fishing the way I do.

That's actually a really good idea. Using all the tools you have to catch the maximum amount of fish. It's all technology. I like it!

I am glad that I am past my prime because if this was 30 years ago you better believe I would be trying to learn everything I could with whatever was available to catch fish. Instead I have fished all of these years and now only know one way to fish which involves looking at the land and structure in the water and having a vision of where a fish might be set up and fishing not necessarily the lure that fits the situation but rather baits that I love to fish and have had success in the past. To use everything in my head and have the anticipation of a bite coming out of nowhere is what I fish for. Just not going to change because that is fishing for me. And some people seem to think there is something wrong with people like me that even though I know I am not competitive in the tournaments I fish these days you would be crazy to try to pry my rod and reels out of my hands or keep me from wanting to be screaming down the lake at the morning blast off of a tournament. And then to have the anticipation of having to deal with a time limit and use all of my knowledge on every cast to do my best to catch a fish. I still study maps of lakes of upcoming tournaments some that have notes from 20 years ago on them. And I'm not going to quit tinkering and building my jigs and baits. But I don't even mind watching a guy fishing with FFS and seeing someone like Dustin Connell crush fish after fish even if they are small and run away with a tournament. But I have even seen him run in and start throwing that Swim Jig in a foot of water or flip a soft plastic also and catch fish. Been watching all of Lee Livesay videos lately and have seen him using FFS but as you can imagine love it when he gets tired of that and heads to the bank and starts crushing those shallow fish old school style. I think the one thing that seems to sometimes be happening more and more is the combination of FFS and just old school tactics for top finishes in a lot of tournaments.

I’m still perplexed by the FFS and Deer Hunting analogy! So food plots, game cameras and feeders are “new”? Next thing you know they’re going to put magnification devices on rifles to make the deer “closer”!

I’m still perplexed by the FFS and Deer Hunting analogy! So food plots, game cameras and feeders are “new”? Next thing you know they’re going to put magnification devices on rifles to make the deer “closer”! I’ll try to help you understand sir. 1. Comparisons with “high fence” hunting….Well, you know; because the fish is contained by the lakes banks. 2. Food plots…..because the fish have food in the water and my hydro wave makes all of those baitfish come to my boat and then the biggun’s come to eat the bait. 3. Scopes….well, it’s called “Livescope”, enough said. 4. Hunting with drones….because you can see a fish from the sky and there is absolutely nowhere in the water column for that fish to hide. 5. Cheater boxes…aka “deer blinds”…..this item is known as the graph when fishing. Keep in mind it’s not a “cheater box” when being used with 2d sonar or SI/DI. It’s ONLY a “cheater box” when using the FFS transducer. 6. Spotlighting…Yep, those basses eyes shine when hit with my spotlight, I just chunk my lure right between their eyes and they dead! 7.Feeders…you know these dirty rotten “cheater box” users are throwing out cut shad when using their devils device, that’s why they catch every single fish in the lake. . I know I’m forgetting something, so I’ll come back to it later.

Next thing you know they’re going to put magnification devices on rifles to make the deer “closer”! keep in mind deer hunting has been going on approx 250 years since this country was settled but only in last 35-40 years has food plots been planted/deer feeders employed and game cameras used to monitor deer...prior to that you either did spot and stalk or watched deer trails/buck rubs and natural food like acorns/persimmons etc. and you spent long hours in the woods to finally kill a deer....lot of areas in this country they used dogs to chase deer and I believe tree stand hunting only got popular back in late 70's....most modern hunters use cameras to monitor deer and don't hunt an area until they see deer on the cameras... as mentioned earlier, many fishermen with FFS don't make a cast until they see fish.... hopefully this will help you see the comparison between modern deer hunting and FFS fishing...
