Anyone know where I can get a fill cap really quickly for the reserve oil tank on a 2017 Optimax ProXs 250 or what I could possibly use till I can get one? I can’t find anything regarding thread size.

Walmart sells the lever type compartment plugs in the boating section that fit and work perfectly.

I had the same issue a couple years ago. Cap would not seal. Unfortunately more times than not it’s the threads on the tank itself. Post covid those tanks were like lookin for a unicorn! 🦄 Took me well over a year to get an OEM tank. Charlie’s Outboard in Alvarado recommended not getting the cheap off brand because he said they have over 50% of them be bad. The old style livewell plugs will work until you can get what you need. Just have to get the proper size. [Linked Image]

Never thought about that fix, the threads on those strip out easy. Usually about the time that happens oil level sensor magnet goes out and you start getting an engine guardian alarm, you have to disconnect one of the blue pig tails to get it to shut up otherwise the motor eventually goes into limp mode.

These plugs will work- I’ve used one for about 2 months until I could find a tank assembly
Also- to get out of Guardian, you can bend a paperclip or small hook and stick it into the connector.
It will truck the system- this is only a short term fix until you can get another cap

The Optimax was ahead of its time being a pain in the @ss engine with electronic safe guards, I've got a new diesel truck with DEF sensors and I hate it

My mechanic was the one that told me about the plug. He knows people that have run that way for years...

Just the rubber ones they have on Amazon in assorted sizes worked for me. If you’re interested I bought a new tank I never installed because I found the problem I’ll sell for a good price if interested
