Do you just fish all year whenever time allows, or do you have a yearly "season" where you have an opening day and an official end of your year? For example, I am basically March 1 - November 1 each year. It has the benefit of prepping for it each winter and being able to compare each season against each other.
I thought you were talking about an actual fishing season. I know many years ago they had a season for bass fishing in Pennsylvania.

I fish all year; fresh & salt water. My favorite time for fresh water is Jan thru April. After April, I start focusing on salt water and my favorite time is Sep thru Nov. I live in Houston and I blessed to have both bodies of water near me.

Kinda like my bud, Jim Ford said, Winter? I lived in the Caribbean for 25 years, and the visitors would ask if we had seasons? I'd say, "Yes, two. Tourist and Hurricane!" Now that I'm on the Texas Riviera, there's Cold Season, usually a week or two in February, and Fishing Season. If it's not blowing, raining or too foggy or cold, it's a fishing day. IslandJim

I fish year round... As long as they're calling for a high temps above 35* and no rain I'll go out for at least a little while... Dan

This time of year, I like to fly fish for trout. Not so much the stockers TPWD sticks in area lakes, but more like the ones at Beavers Bend and streams in Arkansas. I love to fly fish in Colorado rivers and streams in the summertime.
Over the past year, I’ve gotten into crappie fishing, so mid-February into early March, that keeps me occupied. Tossing baits at bass fills in the rest of the year.
I’m not a seasonal fisherman, but I target different species depending on what season it is.

Growing up, I was under the impression that you couldn't catch fish when it was cold, so I only fished for March/April until whenever we got that first round of cold snaps and the bluegill in the creeks stopped biting/moved out. I realized eventually that I had it all wrong, and now I fish all year.

I have lots of people tell me fish won’t bite when it is cold. I know some of you might disagree. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/01/full-107020-254780-029a.jpeg)

I don’t fish much october-january. I guess the rest of the year would be fishing season. Don’t get me wrong the fishing is great during that time of the year I just prefer to hunt. February kinda sucks, March isn’t particularly great either. April-September would be my “season”.

Jan 1 - Dec 31. Not only do I enjoy fishing. I also enjoy catching as well. Both are enjoyable to me.

Favorite time to fish is when surface temps are 60 and falling which normally begins with the second cold front in November. Dead stick " junkie " !!!! A lot less boat traffic !
