Hey yall. I am in need of a kayak shop that can repair a crack in the stern of my NuCanoe Frontier 12. It’s about 2 inches long. I’ve been using epoxy putty and it holds up for a couple months and then falls out again. I would much rather get it patched up properly to get rid of the anxiety while I’m on the water. Does anybody know of some shops that can accommodate this in San Antonio? I appreciate it.

Glues such as MEK for plastic models work by melting the plastic to itself. Might give it a try. maybe pick up a strip of plastic to also glue over crack. Hobby shops.

until you get it fixed permanently, carry a tube of JB Waterweld.. it only takes 30 minutes to set.. I used it for 15 years on my first kayak.. it flew off my car at 60 mph and ground through the hull at stern... yes I have had to repatch it but only after it has worn through from dragging it over the parking lot or getting stuck on stumps.. just hate using a cart to transport but that would save a lot of wear and tear on repair if crack is on hull that usually comes in contact with pavement.

I definitely appreciate the feed back. I have been using JB Weld Water Weld, but it fails after a month or so. Depending on how often I go out. I got some MEK and am looking for some plastic strips to see if that will be more permanent. Thanks again!

Try Gator Guard or similar UV activated reinforced fiberglass repair. I've used it on thin spots on rear of my kayak and its been holding for 2 seasons now. Follow directions exactly when prepping the surface. It will wear through again if you continue to drag kayak but definitely does not fall off....sturdy stuff!

T&G Canoe and Kayak in San Marcos will do it and do it right.
You get out of it what you put into it!
