Looking to get/build a fish thumper. What motor are y’all using to build one? If anyone has one they are not using and wouldn’t mind getting rid of, let me know.
Thanks

Get one of these, bracket for it and variable speed controller. Get one that is about 100 RPM. Rubber mallet, scrap plywood to finish out the shopping list and you should be good to go.

I built one with a pittman geared motor, and one with a windshield wiper motor. They worked but they used allot of battery to function. I always used a Bluetooth speaker in the boat, and put together what I call the "Redneck Bluetooth thumper" using an app with my phone. If you don't want to use the thumper, you can listen to music. Scroll down in the link below about two posts, I show directions on how I setup the app. If the app asks you to buy anything on startup just cancel that and use the free version. The bigger the speaker the better it works, bass is the key. But I Will say that the thumpers you can buy online are superior to all else, but the Bluetooth speaker didn't cost me a dime. Im using a jobrocker Bluetooth speaker now, and it is frickin loud! Anything is better than nothing, I see people who only have a stick in the boat, and they catch fish. The first time I actually saw a boat using a thumper was in the deadbof winter on Grapevine, and they were catching fish in 40ft. I actually thought the guy was crazy, but they were catching fish. I looked online and still to this day have not found a scientific explanation why it brings in fish. Good luck, and if you build one show us how it comes out. Mine was simple hammer with a screw thru the handle, and a arm which was on the motor. It would rotate and raise the hammer, and then it would fall. I created several arms and settled on a arm that gave me about three knocks per second. But it would drain a small gel cell battery in about 3 hours. After I started using the "Redneck thumper", I dismantled the parts out of the manual thunper.

The car seat motor will work for years . The windshield wiper motors were ok, had to get a wiper motor from bus in order to last a year. Usage was heavy then @ 3 to 4 times per week and @ two hours per trip . Just my .02 !

Thunderbolt, I sent you a private message. I have a virtually new one I am willing to sell so you can skip the work shop and get right to the fishing!

I used this motor. Watched a you tube video to re-create one. This is the motor they suggested. It works great!
