I have been seeing several boats drifting with 6 or 8 rods with only 2 people in the boat. Am i reading the regulation wrong stating only 2 rods per person in Texas.

You can use 100 rods as long as you only have one hook on each rod. The regulation is no more than 100 hooks in the water per person at a time.

Some community lakes have rod limits but in general not the case.

The 2 rod limit only applies to Community Ponds and defined Neighborhood Ponds. Here are the regulations for community ponds: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/cfl.phtml You can also search TPWD for a neighborhood pond map. The other limit is 100 hooks. You can have 100 rods with one hook, 50 rods with 2 hooks,, or one rod with 100 hooks. TPWD expanded the Community Ponds program to include, “All public impoundments 75 acres or smaller located totally within an incorporated city limits or a municipal city, county, or state park.” Therefore, since all waterbodies are within a county, every public waterbody smaller than 75 acres has a 2 rod limit now.

I always have at least 6 rods on my boat, pretty much always fish on my own and regularly use all of them when I'm drifting. As my local lake (Lavon) is 21,000 actress I think I'm going to be ok...
