I want to give this lake a try fairly soon. A few questions.

1) Are there any lake maps available for purchase?

2) Is the lake fairly safe to run with marked boat lanes?

3) Any general thoughts on where to try for the fish this time of year?

Thanks in advance.

If you have semi-current (10 years old or so) electronics and a navionics map chip you have all that you need imho.
East of the 897 bridge is safe to run with aforementioned mapping and clear line of sight. Every crappie I have caught there was East of the bridge.
I haven't been there in months to be able to help on locations and it wasn't open at this time last year for historical purposes.

If nothing else, put in at the 897 ramp and fish the bridge pilings right in front of it. Has to be some fish on it somewhere in all of those pilings and you won't have to run anywhere. Good luck. It has some big ones in there.

I fished it for the first time a two weeks ago and accidentally left my battery pack for my electronics at home. I had to fish blind so I fished the 897 bridge pilings. I caught 16 but I really had to work for them. I never caught more than 1 fish at the same spot. Every fish caught was on the shady side of piling so that's what I did the entire day. The bite totally shut down 2pm.
