So I'm jigging some standing timber for crappie on Joe Pool this morning when I notice a snake that's nearly six feet long heading for my boat. As it gets closer I can tell by the look in his eyes that he wants to get in the dang boat! I tried to ease away from him with the trolling motor, but he keeps on coming. I stopped and he comes right up to the back side of the boat and raises his head up. I pushed his head down with my 9-foot crappie rod. He goes under the boat, and I'm thinking "Great, he's gone." So after cleaning out my drawers, I get back up on the trolling motor, plop down and plan to get back to fishing. When I look down on the other side of the boat, there he is again! Eyeballing a way to get on the boat! So I pushed him away with the rod again, and take off with the trolling motor. Now he starts following the boat. I mean there are trees everywhere, but this rascal is determined to get on the boat. By now I'm starting to panic a little. I've got nothing to fight him off with except fishing poles and my bare hands, and I already know the fishing poles won't stop him! So I go back to the back of the boat, where he's already raising his head up looking for a way to get on board. I crouched down and thought "Well, you probably have one chance to be real quick and grab him behind his head." And that's what I did!! I knew without pictures it'd be hard to believe, so I took a few with our cell phone. Let me tell you, it's dang hard to hold a 6-foot snake in your left hand and take a picture with your right. So what you see aren't very well centered, but that's all I got. I hauled him about 100 feet away, grabbed his tail end with my right hand and pitched him over by some other trees, and thank God he swam away from me. I took a quick pee and headed to the damn house!!!

Nate, I think the snake was fairly worn out from swimming. At least that's what I was guessing. It was pretty far from any bank. I figured if I was quick and accurate I could grab him. Plus he had his danged mind made up that he was getting in the boat, so I thought I'd better set up my own terms for that!
Bella, if I had a way to kill I might have, but all I had was a little 3-inch knife, so I was gonna have to get real close to his head to cut him. You can bet I'm carrying a machete from now on!
Thanks for the info on what kind it was DJ. I didn't think it was poisonous, and normally I'd say "live and let live" but that thing was creeping me out with its determination to invade my space!!!!

Yep...the croc hunter in you came out fer sure!
Good job and great story.
Agressive snakes keep me off of Inks. Had two come at me one day trolling out there. Of course granite boulders along the shore didn't help either.

Where do they go when they're not there???

nice job. by looking at the second pic in the series, he looks like he hasn't had a good meal in a while. A little thin in the mid section.
I used to breed snakes many years back. When I had snakes that got that thin in the middle, force feeding sessions would take care of it.
Glad to know you took care of the situation with out destroying the snake.

Nice story.
Back when I was around the age of sixteen years old, I took the bass boat out for my first time alone on Lake Lewisville. My plan was to start chunking a topwater bait around the island not far from the I-35 bridge that goes from Lewisville to Lake Dallas.
I chunked the bait out, made a couple of pops and then allowed the bait to sit, on the next pop there was a BIG SWIRL and a feeling of a strong resistance on the rod I had never felt before.
Long story short, it was a snake. It too tried to get into the boat. After trying to get away with the trolling motor it kept coming. Being a teen on the water alone and severely skeered of snakes, especially if I didn't know the difference from poisonous and non-poisonous. I cranked the BIG MOTOR and attempted to drag him away and off the line somehow. Needless to say that didn't happen. So I did the next thing I could think of, cut the line and give the snake the bait and the territory. Hope whoever found that snake enjoyed the lure too!
