Thad Rains. One of the nicest fishermen I’ve ever had the honor of fishing with. First time I fished with him on Alan Henry about 10 years ago. I drove up from Odessa and he met me at the ramp, paid the ramp fee for me , took me around and showed me all the good spots on the lake. We fished til dark, it was a great day. He offered to let me stay at his place but I had to get back for work. So he gave me a yellow magic 1/4” oz, I’d seen him catch fish on it and I’d been impressed with it, first time I’d seen one. I’ve caught many fish off that bait, but after he passed I put it up, just couldn’t bring myself to fish that lure anymore.

Fast forward to today, this little warming trend has the shad poppin back in the creeks this morning. Digging through my bag I’ve thrown just about everything and they’re keyed on shad. I see the yellow magic in its little case and it gives me pause for a minute. Thought about Thad and the good times we had fishing and hanging out. So I decided today would be the day I’d throw it again. Tied it on, first cast 3#’s. They continued to smash that bait and I mean choking it. Topped the day off with a #6. Was an awesome day full of memories and good fish. I know those of you that knew him remember him to be a good man and friend. Just wanted to share my thoughts today and share a pic [Linked Image]

Great way to make and remember a good fishing friend.
Sorry you lost him but glad you had him as your friend.
Everyone needs good friends and especially good fishing friends.

Very nice. I fished with him multiple times on Alan Henry. He was a nice man and very good fisherman.

Never met him, but my club partner fished with him on Lewisville when they were members of the Lewisville Bass Club.
I have heard a few stories about him. Sounds like a good dude.
