"Fifteen years, $765 million, no deferred money. The numbers of Juan Soto's contract with the New York Mets, agreed to Sunday night in a deal that sets a new standard for the largest contract in professional sports history, tell a story." https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...gns-record-contract-new-york-mets-passanWho would have thought that Ohtani's deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers that was the largest ever would only last for a year.

There is not a human being on this planet worth that kind of money doing any job let alone playing the game of baseball.

Guy is very over rated IMO.
Glad the Dodgers did not pursue him. Slightly above average DH and below average outfielder.
And 15 years! He is 27. So he will be a Met until he is 42!? Makes no sense to me at all. Right now there are only a handful of MLB players over 40 and they are pitchers who pitch like once every 5 days and are not starters for the most part. They come in for one hitter. Oldest position player is Votto at 40 and I think he might be retiring. He only hit 200 last year.
Crazy deal.

$314,814.81 per game to put on the uniform whether he plays or not. Broadcast fees continue to rise so chumps like us can watch chumps like him play a game. Except for our Rangers screw baseball

Well hell, thanks Mets. Now Jerry will over pay Parsons, just so he can be #1 on the dumb butt list.

Except for our Rangers screw baseball I agree plus all advertisers get charged more for their commercials during games so they eventually have to raise their prices. It seems to be a never ending cycle. The older I get the less interest I have for pro sports and rarely watch any game start to finish. I have no solution to offer but players salaries are totally ridiculous.

Well, as long as they continue to raise ticket prices, there will always be someone who pays those prices, contracts will continue to rise, just think there's probably a high school player now who will sign the 1st billion dollar contract. Probably happen within the next 7-10 years, if not sooner.

This just set the precedence and bar way too high for cost of a player. Absolutely ludicrous. One thing for sure: GOOD FOR HIM and his agent.

I mean Ohtani is a generational talent and possibly will go down as the best who ever played the game. The guy is going to win a Cy Young and a Batting title in the same season, he invented the 50/50 club and he is not that fast of a runner! He is not the fastest on the Dodgers even. He is just that good. You pay that man. Soto is a good hitter. Above avg. But not exceptional. And he a lousy fielder. I cannot believe the Mets paid him that.

Reason number 859 why baseball needs a salary cap. Mid and small market teams had no chance at him
