Anybody here have one? My daughter totaled her Buick and the local dealer no longer carries new Buicks. They do carry Chevy Trax and that, according to the salesman, is supposed to be similar to the Encore GX she had, which is what she wants. She wants to stick with our local dealer. I picked my daughter up from the airport at 10:30 last night. She was coming home from a Navy training in MS. Since she's out a car right now, dad is the dd. That needs to change lol.

Glad she was able to total the ride and still be ok-

Scary stuff when the offspring are involved in accidents-

Good luck in the search-

Thanks for the kind words. She's fine. It was a relatively slow speed thing but enough for the airbags to deploy. I haven't seen the car. Just signed it away to the insurance company because I was a cosigner on the loan. She's car shopping now. We may be looking at a Trax today. I asked her to send me the VIN on it, so I can have some info before we go to the dealer. She wants certain things on the car, and I'd like to know what's there before we go.

We almost bought one for our kid, but the dealership tried the ol’ price bait & switch when we were writing a deposit check (this was back when cars were flying off the lot). The car has some really nice features at a real reasonable price, I’m just not sure how long the 3cyl turbo would hold up. Lots of manufacturers going to these tiny turbo motors.

Report back after you look at it and let us know how it feels when driving. Somewhere around $26k (might have been $28k) gets you the top of the line in the Trax.

If my budget was 25k- I’d buy the nicest used Toyota or Honda I could find. The trac is a really neat looking car for the money, that’s the appeal, how it is in a few years is what would make me nervous.

I bought a 2025 in May. Have been very happy with it so far, RS trim has a lot of perks. The "CVT" transmission is a little different feeling but we are used to it from a previous Nissan Versa.
I don't care for the auto stop/start (manual override button). Has enough power to do what we do on the road.

I'm on my 2d one. My 24 got totalled by hail so I got a 25. Plenty of room, quick enough, and the 1RS, which is one step up from the base model, has heated seats and heated steering wheel. It is not a cvt, it has a regular 5 speed automatic. I like them, but honestly wouldn't expect it to be a 200 000 mile vehicle with the tiny 3 cylinder turbo. And if you damage it, replacement body parts are nonexistent.

I don't know the Trax, but I have watched the trend by many car makers to put out these mid-small sized SUV's with underpowered engines as a measure to save weight and gas mileage. Not a fan of undersized engines at all. I do a ton of driving in big city freeways, and also west Texas highways. In both cases, there are times when you need the ability to punch the accelerator and move your butt. Some of those cars with a hamster wheel are flat out dangerous on the freeway.

All good points. My daughter really liked her Encore GX. I asked her if there was anything else she would want to have, and she said no. She was stationed in Washington State for a year, and drove it there and back. It had a lot of add ons: remote start, heated everything. She got it new for around 24 in 2020. Our local dealer quit selling Buicks, but they have a couple of 2023's on the floor. They cost more than the 2025 Trax. Around 25 sounds about right for the Trax.

I would buy the best low miles Toyota RAV4 or Highlander I could find within your budget.

It's all her this time. The goal is no cosign, and she pays the down payment. 27 is going to be her budget. She wants new, and I'm with her on that deal. Let the dealer fix it.

Its good that she wants American made.
I struggle with that when I purchase a car. Toyota has just been more troublefree for us than any american brand.

Pretty sure the trax is made in korea, lots of Japanese cars are made in America.
