I recently purchased a MotorGuide Xi5 saltwater version TM. I used it for the first time over the Thanksgiving weekend. We fished on Thursday but didn't use the TM. On Friday I used the TM for about an hour fishing the docks at Sanctuary. When finished I pulled up and stowed the TM and headed out into the bay. It was pretty choppy and we traveled for about 15 minutes. When we stopped we noticed that the prop had fallen off the TM. What the heck is that all about?
I called MotorGuide who told me to call the dealer who told me to call MotorGuide (typical run around). Now I'm waiting to see if I'm going to get a replacement. Eventually I'm going to have a new prop, anode and nut, even if I have to buy it. My question is how tight should I tighten the mounting nut. Should I really tighten it as much as I can, or will this bind the TM and cause it to overheat or wear out something.
Any suggestions on how I should install the prop to prevent it from falling off again.
Thanks......Richard

I have 2 of the freshwater Xi5's on quick release mounts that I use on several different boats and never had that problem, maybe the pin was left out causing it to spin loose? It has been a while but I believe the prop will bottom out on a step or the pin so that tightness will not affect the motor...

Thanks for the help. I'll make sure I tighten the nut snuggly. I also just read that someone who also had this happen used some blue threadlock or Locktight. I might try that also.

It’s a Nyloc locking nut…right? Snug…..it should NEVER just fall off, unless it wasn’t a lock nut.

I'm not sure as I can't remember the type of nut sent to me by MotorGuide. If my replacement isn't a Nyloc locking nut I will purchase one. Can you use threadlock on a nylon lock nut also?

A nylon insert nut SHOULD never come off, but they occasionally will. I had one of the nyloc nuts "fall off" of my Power Pole years back that went through the mount. The bolt then wiggled itself loose and fell. The whole thing fell to the ground. I had a drift paddle attached and it wore down one corner of the blade.
