I recently turned 50. Amid the usual jokes of being 'half a century' old from my family, I found a letter from AARP inviting me to join. In addition, the last few months I have been inundated with calls from Medicare, to the point that I have them on call block. WTF?!?! Maybe I have been oblivious to the marketing strategies of these 2 organizations, but since when is 50 even close to 'calling it a day'? Do I officially need to start hitting up the early bird specials at Luby's or asking for senior citizen discounts at the movies? I don't think I'm the type to grow old gracefully. What say you? Accept or Fight?

aarp is demonic, it is not for the elderly, it is for praying on the elderly bank account and feeding the liberal agenda... it needs to be abandoned...

I heard Republican voters can get good discounts on Medicare by signing up for AARP? Is there anyone that can confirm this?

Forget AARP, like everyone else said.
Medicare is for retired people (there are exceptions). Most likely if you are working, you have a company provided Healthcare Benefit. Use that until you retire. Having Medicare and a company hosted medical insurance plan would be like double coverage. Medicare IS NOT FREE. When you retire, sign up for Medicare at that time.
Government supplied Medicare provides you with Part A and Part B only. Then you have to SHOP for Part C which covers medications. There are LOTS of companies that you can sell you Insurance plans with Part C attached.
This is where all the advertisements and phone calls come from. Insurance companies wanting your business, because you need it. Do not go without a Plan C, There is a big penalty if you eventually decide that you need it and didn't buy it up front.

As far as Old Folks Discounts ..... some of them start at 55 years of age. Many at 60, and lots at 65. You just have to keep your eyes open .... if that's important to you.
Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes there are conditions. Like, "You have to be her between 2;00 and 4; for it to apply."

AARP called me about 10 years ago. I politely asked them to take me off their list and never call or send me any info... It's worked... Haven't heard from them since... Dan

Go ahead and get you some New Balance Shoes, I prefer the Black Cross Trainers. Stand out on your porch and scream get off my lawn. Go to any place of business and complain about prices while taking five minutes to pay for your measly purchase and then gripe about not getting the correct change.

Part C is for those who cannot afford a Medigap policy to go with original Medicare Part B The penalties are for late signing up for Part B and Part D

Looking forward to senior discounts at certain places. My parents eat places for under $7 total for both of them.

Several better more comfortable options. Comfort and support gets more important for old feet. Next level up is Brooks. Hoka has some real comfortable shoes. OnCloud is good too. For any manufacturer there are some models that are more comfortable and better for your feet than others. Best pair I ever had were Hoka. Super comfortable. They were not to be found next time I went to buy tennis shoes. Found them on Amazon. Good inserts with arch can kill foot pain. If I don’t use them in at least some of my shoes Plantar Fasciitis comes back. It’s no fun. Pay by check….lol. Drive 50 in the left hand lane on freeway. We need a forum section “Olds topics”.
