I eat a lot of turkey meat, like deli meat. That said for Thanksgiving last few years we been doing a nice big chicken in lieu of the turkey.

We are a small group and my Wife does not eat meat anyways so no need for a big ole bird.

A chicken is more tasty anyways... lets just be honest.

Will have all the traditional sides though!

turkey breast - started out 9 lbs, has some kind of 15% turkey “broth” injected (yum), minus about 1 lb of bonus ice/water, minus 1/2 lb pack of some kind of turkey “gravy”, minus 1 lb of backbone and skin removed - so now about 6 lbs roflmao

Makes the turkey much more palatable.

We've done the roasted hen thingy too several times but inevitably she gets free turkeys at work (or a credit from work to pick one up) so we'll not look this gift horse in the mouth.

Turkey is not my fav, I'd rather a brisket, but if done right it's OK.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

You should just cook that Brazilian steak.

All you Turkey haters, stop eating the white meat ( dry, stringy and tasteless) and get the dark meat. That is where the flavor is.

I consider a brine or a salt rub mandatory. It'll come out juicy like chicken. Brine is better but if you don't have bag or pot big enough. Salt rub works. Just make sure you rinse the salt off.

I like turkey, especially the leftovers for a sandwich.

Tom Thumb gave us a 15 lb. hen turkey.

Monday, I removed the saddle - legs and thighs and wings. Momma stewed those to make broth for turkey soup. Then I rubbed the breast with seasoning and smoked it on the Weber Smoky Mountain.
Pulled it off at 170 degrees.

When I cut it juice ran all over the cutting board. Tender as a Mother's love.

Turkey is superb if done correctly.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.
