After several years of pond-hopping with my 10-foot boat, I'm ready to buy another big boat. I still have a Lowrance HDS 9 that worked great several years ago. I kept it when I sold my Skeeter. So, my question is, has the technology improved enough to warrant buying a new unit, or is the older HDS 9 on a par with lesser expensive fish finders available today. If I bought a new unit, I would want something in the $800 range. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

[s][/s]For $800? No, you’ll have to spend $1500-$3000 to find something beneficial and that’s only if you want FFS. Find a gen 2, 3, Carbon and save the money. If you want FFS, a Carbon or Live will handle those, past your budget though.

Depends on the type of fishing you do. If you fish shallower water and use your graph to locate structure, your HDS 9 is fine.
