Prayers to all the family members of all the victims that died in this senseless act. Many of us have spent thousands of hours standing by a waterbody enjoying the outdoors. It is sad that this angler will not be returning home. Unfortunately, many of are exposed to an act like this. Stay alert when you are fishing. You just never know who is out there angel2

I've walked upon some crack heads scouting for a spot at Belton Lake Park. They were huddled under a rock overhang. I don't care so I keep scouting. That's when I noticed monkey boy next to me. Asking me something stupid. In reality, checking to see if I was cop. I call him monkey boy because this skinny white guy with dreadlocks. Did a monkey climbing up the rock cliff to get to me.

After he knows I'm not the police. He walks off and blended away with the scenery. I caught three stripers that day.

Don't you guys fish armed? Knife or a firearm? I do and always have.

This is sad but its really not a "fishing thing" as much as a "its a dangerous world out there" thing. I have never carried in my boat. In my truck and in my RV and in my house, that's another story.

Rarely ever will you catch me without a Glock 26 or 43 strapped on my starboard side. You never know when the crazy world we live in will strike.

If you carry, your weapon is safer in your boat than in your unattended truck parked at the ramp.

Is there anything more creepy then the boat ramp parking lot? Leona Park is especially creepy. The spill way on Belton dam is another.

There's always some lone guy in his truck sitting there for hours. Mean mugging you if you look his direction. He doesn't fish, never gets out the truck and just sits there. I can't say this is weird. It happens too often.

You guys in the boats. That takes guts. Parking $100,000 worth of truck and trailer while everyone walking knows you're way across the lake. I'm never more then 200 yards from my ride. Usually fishing areas where I can get a clear view of my car.

I've always dreaded the thought of returning to the ramp and walking up to the parking lot and seeing either a truck with the windows broken out or an empty parking space where my truck was once parked.
I've heard all the horror stories and seen evidence of it not happening to me but to someone else.
It's a pucker factor of 1000, but quite a relief when you see everything still intact.
It's the price we have to be willing to pay but it's like you do all you can do to stay safe and protect your property, but even that there is a chance it won't be enough if someone really wants your stuff, or means bodily harm.

Just one more cast!

In NY if anyone had confronted the killer and caused him any discomfort or worse injury they would be arrested and be in deep trouble so this will continue.
