An air force buddy and I try to get together at least once a year for a fishing trip. Both of us are at least 5 hours away. We went two weeks ago and was surprised to find that we had no grass hardly anywhere on either lake. What we did find was very minimal. Does anyone know what happened? Just curious, thanks in advance!

All the grassy lakes around Texas kinda took a little hit from the past couple winters. At least that’s what I assume. I know a few that NEVER get sprayed, and the grass is 10% of what it was a couple years ago.

You must fish a small area. Toledo is a huge lake and the grass is contained in a small percentage of the lake.

They both have grass just not all over the lake, water fluctuation really set back this years grass. Rayburn went from 6ft low and grass, to 2-3ft high which killed alot of it.

This year i found grass on the north end of Toledo, most of that is prolly high and dry now.

I haven’t been on the Bend since late March, but all the popular creeks had plenty of grass. I was super happy to see that much hydrilla thriving again. Rayburn was drawn way down like 8’ for dam repair or something, not much grass left with water on it when we were there. I’d guess that draw down to be the reason grass was knocked back a little on big Sam.

Very helpful. Why even comment?

Typically the South end of T-Bend holds majority of the grass. And there is a lot there currently but not as much as in its hayday. Housen for example is matted from the island at mouth of hurricane back to the creek.

But when I was kid, even the main lake had grass. .

I think its more correct to say Grass equals bait fish.

Down here it has to be hydrilla, the bass (or baitfish) won’t hold in the milfoil. Seems odd to me, but I’ve never caught a bass in or near our milfoil.

The high water this past spring/summer has killed most of the hydrilla on Sam Rayburn. There are still a few patches here and there currently if you really go look for it but it isn't flourishing in any particular area.
