Howdy folks, looking for advice on crappie fishing in a medium-sized pond with decent vegetation (bank and sub-surface) but no real structure.
I was fishing small jigs off the bottom for bluegill or bass, and to my surprise the crappie hit the jigs. I could tell they picked the jig off the bottom because they were hooked on the bottom lip, much like a bass.
Any thoughts on how to pattern these fish? I am always hesitant of bottom-fishing for crappie since that rarely works for me when I try it intentionally.
Thanks, and tight lines!!

Jig and bobber in the open spots should produce fish

Unless the pond is really deep I would go with a slip bobber rig.

Pond crappie don’t really have a pattern, even if it’s fairly deep, they kinda stay in the same depths most of the year. Jig and bobber almost always works.

How big is the pond? Big enough for a boat or bank fishing only? How deep? How thick are the pads? Do you have a photo?
Depending on your answers, there are a few ways to fish it mostly using a light jig with either soft plastic or hair which catch any fish that swims including bass. A float can be used for an ultra-slow presentation as well as casting a good distance.

KidKrappie knows, he is on that kind of pattern coupled with overpasses routinely. He ketches fish ,some are hawgs .
