New York City epicures are devouring a “special” Ecuadorian delicacy, guinea pigs — better known stateside as a potential pet for kids — and hailing them as a “very delicious” feast.

At least that is the experience at the restaurant La Casa Del Cuy — literally “the house of guinea pig” — a culinary go-to in Corona, Queens, that grills and serves the rodent (cuy) whole, essentially every part but the “squeak.”

I think I’ve unknowingly had that at the Sanger DQ before.

It was actually better than anything else the prison work release crew members they seem to employ there ever passed to me thru the drive-thru window with their nasty meth-tweaking fingers.

To be clear, I’m not bad-mouthing the Sanger DQ because I don’t want to upset BCBassCat. He thinks it’s the Pappas Bros Steakhouse of Sanger.

I'll try most anything once. I've eaten at enough roadside cafes in southern Louisiana that I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the first rodent I've had on my plate.

I would definitely be interested in his thoughts / opinions.

Have eaten Cuy many times in Peru. It’s a favorite dish. It’s enough that if I’m hungry and see them here in a pet store, I get hunger pangs.

I’ve had it two different ways in Peru. It was fine. Nothing crazy, nothing awesome.

Still earning miles just not as many.
