I am curious why you don't see striper guides using pontoon boats. Is it that I just don't notice them? Do they drift too fast? Do they make too much noise because of the aluminium? Just something I was wondering about.

they don't handle rough water that well either running down the lake, trolling, drifting, or anchored. also they are slow. what they are is comfortable when the water is not rough.

Actually they handle rough water great, trolling, drifting or anchored....
They are slow, and that might be one of the main reasons, but if the wind is up, they do tend to drift fast

I wish I had the money to get a toon with a 90HP engine and keep my scrappy boat. There is this guy on Benbrook that has a sweet looking tri-hull looking platform toon hybrid with a 150 on it it is sweet.

I looked at a Tracker 288 Sport today it was really nice but a bit pricey. All I got is 7K cash and no mo...

Keith and I saw the COOLEST pontoon boat on Bridgeport last month--it grabbed our attention because I was going about 30mph and it was flying past me! It looks like a traditional pontoon but has what looks like a fiberglass tunnel hull. I talked to the owner at the ramp and he and his wife loved it--I wished I could remember the brand--it had a 90 hp yammy on it and he said he was thinking of putting a 115 on it--cool! A pontoon that will do 45mph!

I think they can handle the rough water..Saw one on Hubbard that flew by me with a 115 merc wide open go through 3-4fters like they were nothing..Meanwhile I'm getting soaked and pounded doing maybe 20mph..Like everybody else said, I think its because most of them are slow and they are hard to control in the wind.

Sounds like a hurricane deckboat, has a style like a toon, but has the semi v hull....those things can move

Agree 100%

And you can get the speed just it's not very cost effective.

Heres one with a 525...kinda pricey

Was it a smoker craft???
My brother has one. Fiber glass on bottom, pontoon set up on top. It will run around 40 mph.
