I joke with my son all the time that we should have sent him to kicking camps etc. A good kicker can play for 20 years.

Money is good for kickers now, these kids are training their whole lives to kick a football. Top 10 all make $5M+ a year to play a position that they will likely never get hit.

Most of them don’t even need to shower after the game…never break a sweat!

Have him learn to deep snap. That’s a great way to earn a football scholly.

I can remember when field goals were iffy past 30 yards (1970s). The Cowboys brought in Toni Fritsch as one of the 1st "soccer style" kickers. He had a 12 year career in the NFL.

Here are his numbers and they are Terrible by today's standards.

0-19 yards 24-24
20-29 yards 53-62
30-39 yards 39-60
40-49 yards 36-72
50+ yards 5-13

That's 157 out of 231 tries.

And yes the kickers today are unbelievable!!!

Brandon Aubrey is stupid good. I think we are going to see that kid become the GOAT. What was it week 2 or 3 when he drilled the 66 yard kick that would have tied the NFL record, only to have it called back for illegal motion. I really wanted to see MM let him go for 71 after the penalty but he pooned out.

The grass and turf they kick off these days is a perfect lie every time.
The groundskeeping and turf technology has played a significant roll…and no more dual purpose baseball/football stadiums with field goal kickers striking the ball from the dirt infield.

In the mid 90’s; Jack Nicklaus was asked what the greatest advancement in golf was; he replied the modern lawn mower.

He's grown. He's a field supervisor for a HazMat company. He probably wishes he was an NFL kicker. It would be awesome if he forged his birth certificate on a napkin and went back and played again. I mean it works for tge 29 year old Dominicans in the Little League World Series. You see guys playing with full sleeve tattoos and a beard talking about they are 12 years old.... roflmao

It’s rampant in kid sports- club soccer is the worst. Teams have a ringer that’s a few years older and it seems everyone looks the other way, winning is everything to some clubs. We always joke at the U12 games about some kids driving themselves to the game.

Had a young salesman working for me once trying to get in the NFL as a kicker. He said the competition for that position was just as stiff as any position in the sport. He went to five or six tryouts that I remember and never got above third or forth place.

I had a friend from HS that went on to be a place kicker for the New Giants after college. He was in the league for several years and made decent money. During the off season he was a paralegal for real estate. Rusty went on to become pretty successful in the legal field. Haven't heard from him in quite some time. May need to give him a call soon.

Anyone remember who kicked the first 50 yard field goal in NFL history? I remember watching that game back in the 1960's. I can't even find the answer on Google.
