Sticky wicket Ray. Local opinion vs State opinion vs National opinion. Ain't no winners and ain't no losers. Just opinion. I do agree with ya on one thing. Why cross the lake when they can hitch a ride into town and cross the bridge?
Catchem early!

Ray, So help me understand......is the plan to run the fence along the east side of the ENTIRE lake?? Surely, not??? I can understand the river..... The way I see it, if anyone can swim the wide part of that lake the least we could do is offer them a spot on our olympic swim team.

No offense to the author of the article, but Jay Johnson? This guy added the Castro to his name last year when the fence bill first came up. He is a grandstander and media/attention whore of the worst kind.
He "walked" from Zapata to Brownsville last year in protest. Of course the walk consisted of staged media events and planned stops along the route, accompianied by an entourage the whole way. He even had a documentary film crew to record his "historic journey".
As for the fence itself, well, frankly, I don't see it happening here. Almost every local elected offical has voiced opposition to it and have sought assurances that it won't be built. No to mention the fact that from a logistics standpoint it would be close to impossible.
The Border Patrol is looking at alternatives to the fence such as eliminating the river cane that thrives downstream from the dam and installing more electronic sensors and cameras. There is already a network of sensors and cameras in place in the trouble spots and more are being installed every day. The network is so tight that illegals are going as far north as El Paso to come across because they know that the chances of getting caught here are so high. Trust me when I say that you can't pick your nose on the lake that someone probably won't see you do it.
Now, with all that being said, I am passionate about Border Security. I want the illegal crossings to stop and the border to be secure, period. But a fence isn't the way to do it. It might work in Arizona or The People's Republik of Kalifornia where there isn't a river, but it won't work here.
If you're lucky enough to live by the lake...you're lucky enough
