Planning on heading to the Austin area in February and March to escape the Wisconsin winter.
Looking for smaller lakes (under 1,000 acres) to bass fish from a kayak. Would prefer undeveloped lakes to hopefully avoid jet skis and wake boats.
Anyone have any suggestions for lakes to check out within an hours drive from Austin? Thanks.

In no particular order...
Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park (NW edge of Austin) Lakeline Park in Cedar Park Lakewood Park in Leander Town Lake (section of Colorado River through Austin) is kayak friendly...no gas powered boats permitted. Granger Lake Lake Bastrop

I don't get up to the Austin lakes much...Austin has turned into too much of a sh_t hole for me to trust my vehicles in a parking lot while out fishing Lady Bird but I do kayak fish Coleto Creek (I own the 2nd largest bass landed from that lake at 12-3) and Fayette a bunch. PM me if you'd like to hook up on one of those. I know both well for kayak spots.

I would throw in Inks lake. It gets its water out of the bottom of Bucanan, it's a small lake, so in the winter months it stays pretty constant. Its got a great state park.

Today is your lucky day. Walter E Long lake will be canoe and kayak only for approximately 2 years while they are doing work on the dam. Work a rattle trap through the grass and you will get bit by some good sized largemouth.
