I've done something similar while dove hunting south of Waco sitting by a tank loaded with bass. Rod on one side and a 20gauge on the other side. I had times when I had a bass on the line and some dove flew in. Jammed the rod between my legs and picked up the shotgun and started shooting. Best of both worlds.
