Trying to decide between these 2 motors. I want yall's opinion, but don't let price difference be a reason for not going with Quest. Pick below is my new boat, standard weight for this rig is motor 300 lbs and hull 800 lbs, with the extra's on it probably 1300 lbs.. I'll use the boat year around in north Texas, duck hunting in the winter and fishing in the summer. Important reasons I want the quest is #1 I want a good back up motor with power to get me back to the ramp if my outboat (Gatortail mudmotor) fails, which could be 5 miles. I'm 63 and duck hunt a lot by myself, in places that not many people go, many times in freezing conditions, this is Nov thru Jan. So for safety reasons, I like the power to get me home. My thought is to just run the quest with 24v battery. Below is a screen shot of 24v Ultrex vs 24v Quest, the quest as has 10 lbs more thrust (per my charts) but this says 50% more toargue, not that I need this, I'm more interesteted in what gets me more miles on the water to get back to ramp, the Quest motor seems more efficient, atthough per my table above it is 2 more max Amp Draw, but way more power. The recommended rule of thumb power needed on Minn Kota website is 2 lb of thrust per 100 lbs, so 80lbs thurst is way more than enough per this rule, so not interested in more power, but I am interested in more miles on 24v battery. It also comes with 2 props, more for brush the other for power which is probably better for more miles.. It also as a "Ego" mode. "Choosing Eco Mode limits power to the trolling motor to extend time on the water. Eco Mode can also be used at any time, however certain Advanced GPS Navigation features like Spot Lock and Drift Mode automatically disable Eco Mode." Overall, the Quest is a "Rebuilt" Ultrex, with many improvements...This is a good video on it.

I like the quest also does side scan, but I plan on putting getting mega 360 on it and it does side scan, but per Humming Bird, Mega 360 does side scan but not down scan.

if your question is which for safety purposes to get back to the ramp. I would absolutely go 36 volt for a couple reasons. The boat doesn't need that big of a trolling motor. The 36 volt will use less amps to move the boat and you will have more batteries to get you back. The batteries in colder weather will lose power from the cold. I would absolutely get the 36 volt for those reasons to get me back to the ramp. 5 miles is a long way either way. Good luck

Normal set-up 2x for TM, one for my other electronics. And if my outboard fails on me, I can rig my trolling motor for 36v to get me home. Iām liking that.
