A couple of years ago I was walking along a spring fed creek where I hunt armed only with my camera. I saw this little bird swimming around up ahead of me. Thinking it was a duck, I moved off the creek and got closer. When I got close enough (300x zoom) I started taking pics. I had never seen a bird like it. Turned out that it was a Least Grebe. Unless you can get a close up, you’d think it was a duck. There are quite a few Pied-billed Grebes on Eagle Mountain but I thought they were ducks until I started researching this one. The first pic is the creek just below where it was swimming around.

Great picture. If the bird was in the DFW area that is north of the normal range, but birds sometimes like to venture out to new areas. grin

I got out fished by this Grebe one day on the Blue River in Oklahoma. I have not seen one like you photographed. Very pretty.
