Good job brother. I know its tough but you have helped a family with closure. Ive been in the fire service for 30 years and understand. We are trained for this and "get used to things we see". If you need anyone to talk to reach out to me.

Thanks everyone, it’s been a real mind trip. It’s not something I wanted to open up to my family about and I knew this group would understand. I have a new respect for all the first responders and rescue crews. I can’t imagine what they see on a daily basis. These comments mean more than most would think. Thank you all so much.
Trying to move forward, but the images in my mind are haunting The images will fade over time and you should take pride that you personaly helped a family complete some closure of a very bad time in their lives.

Thanks guys. I've had time to digest what happened, I know that I'll never forget the images, but I have found peace know that I did bring someone closure and knowing that I prevented a child from discovering it. I was looking at my grand baby the next weekend and I thought, I couldn't even imagine what the conversation would be like trying to be a parent explaining it. So I feel much comfort knowing I prevented that.

Always been a fear of mine. Sorry you went through it but yes, take some solace in knowing you helped bring some closure to someone.

Found one on Roberts 2 years ago. Just focus on the family and you will be good. Bothered me for a day or 2 and I was looking for it.

Some of the ugly stuff you see as a medic/fireman/or cop will fade after a while. Some stuff hangs around forever, but isn't quite as graphic. Hang tough! Seek professional help if it gets bad, there is no shame in that.

I have seen some terrible things myself. Bodies blown apart, bodies burned, people on fire and still alive. I understand your emotions. The first time you see something like that it is tough to get it out of your head. Modern society does a good job at shielding most people from the reality that life is brutal and unforgiving. The more you are exposed to human death the more you realize how fragile life really is. The initial shock of what you saw will go away with time. Just take comfort in the fact that the person you found is in a better place and free of any problems or pain, and that you helped that person's family have some closure.
